STAGE 13 – Staffoli Le Cerbaie / Gorfigliano (Lago di Gramolazzo) – 2016

On the streets of this stage the bicycle is the Queen of the Road, due to the limited traffic and the beautiful roads. In the beginning you will pass in Collodi, village of Pinocchio and his author; Then crosses the famous valley of the “Carterie”, where ancient lands and traditions of papermaker still intact. Overpassing Bagni di Lucca, you will meet the architectural Roman bridge built to join the two banks of the Garfagnana River and climbing the front valley you reach the beautiful city of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. Here start the tortuous uphill of Carpinelli that leads to the end of the stage at the quiet village of Gorfigliano, just above the lake of Gramolazzo, a small oasis behind the Apuane Alps, dominated by the Pisanino mountain and land of the famous Carrara marble.
