Pontedera / Castelnuovo Berardenga
Very demanding stage. In a tortuous succession of curves you will face shorts climbs and challenging downhills sections, that require attention. Despite the effort this is the stage that most gratifies the randonneur cyclist, allowing him to admire a vast cultural and architectural heritage of the Via Francigena: you will meet on your route the castle of Castelfalfi, the chapels of San Vivaldo, the medieval village of San Gimignano (characterized by 15 majestic towers) and Monteriggioni, a hide pearl from whose point of observation you can see Montagnola, a place dear to the people of Siena and Dante Alighieri. Once overpass the city of Siena, the final part goes along the roads of the Eroica (famous bicycle race) along some stretches of dirt/gravel roads, that goes through woods and hills covered with rows of grapes from which the famous and delicious Chianti wine is made. Then you will reach the quiet town of Castelnuovo Berardenga, end of the stage and the point of control.
